台湾への旅05 - 時尚故宮？ - Old is New

実はメトロポリタン美術館やルーブル美術館と並んで、世界四大美術館のひとつと言われる故宮博物院は、中国の歴代皇帝が収集していた貴重なコレクションが集まっているという中華な文化の宝庫。

年代に沿って陶器や工芸品中心に楽しめるそのコレクションは、中華民国政府の台湾への移動と同時に台北に移送され、北京の故宮（紫禁城）に習って新たに建てられた博物館に収蔵されたのだそう。

正院は上から見れば梅の花のように５つの４階建ての建物から作られているのだそうだけど、そういう象徴的な要素を、ミュージアムショップで販売されているお土産たちにも積極的に使っている、そんな博物館のデザインテーマは、『Old is New. 』

故宮博物院は、2007年に改修され、ミュージアムショップもリニューアル、その時にグッズもOld is Newのテーマに合わせていろいろとデザインされたようだ。そのキーワードOld is Newには、最近の日本のデザインにも似たような傾向があると思う。技術の進歩と、ネットの普及で世界中が同時に同じ情報を大量に得られるようになった現代社会で、誰がいち早く新しいものをみつけられるか？そんなことに振り回されるのには疲れる。

また、画一化しているからこそ、おもしろいものは誰もおもしろいと思っていなかったところにある、なんていうのは社会の構図で、最近田舎暮らしや地方の文化やクラフトが見直されているように、今まで当たり前にあったものに目を向けることこそOld is Newのテーマの特徴。

特に、コストの問題に巻き込まれてなかなか本音でデザインできないデザイナーの悩みを解決するのにも、このキーワードは役立つ。

ここでは、伝統的なクラフトに描かれた、古来のモチーフ、実は言い伝えで、風水で、など意味のあるものをモチーフに、現代の生活雑貨がデザインされていた。どこに行っても、その土地土地の独特のものを見て、好奇心が沸いたり、探究心が芽生えて知らなかったことに出会えたり、刺激を受けて何か新しいアイディアが生まれる・・・のは、まさにOld is New、古いものには何かを知るヒントが隠されている。いつも私の旅のテーマ。

こちらは有名なデザインなのだそうだけど、龍のカタチをした栓抜き。

龍は古来より皇帝の象徴。水底に棲み、時を見て天に駆け上る伝えがあり、非常にめでたい伝説の動物。

水の中では、魚（鯉）の形をしていて、滝を登り龍門を超えて龍に成り代わるという言い伝えもあることから、お魚もおめでたいモチーフのひとつ。お魚の製氷器は、残念ながら後ろの英語の説明が意味不明で本当に理解できているかわからないけれど、察するに、お魚と繁栄という中国語を発音すると、幸運と同じということらしく、別の意味でも飲む人にちょっとした笑いをあげられるのでは？と購入。

これぞイタリアンデザインといえばAlessiだけれど、イタリア留学時にマスターの論文発表で初めてご本人に会って以来、微妙なイメージを払拭できないでいる、ステファノ・ジョバンノーニ氏による故宮博物館のためのデザイン、Mr. Chinに続くOrien Talesもここに。この博物館の館長さんは女性で、デザイン活動は積極的。どこか18世紀によく使われていたセラミック製の日用雑貨を彷彿とさせるイメージには、伝統的な懐かしさを感じさせてくれるが、Alessiらしくプラスチック製。

Alessiらしいカラフルで楽しいデザインのモチーフでものすごく印象深いのは、これまたお魚、それから小鳥。

これらのモチーフが故宮博物院の宝物の中にもどのように使われているか見てみるのも、楽しいかもしれない。

Finding traditional elements brought from treasures in National Place Museum in Taipei, was very interesting. I found the same theme as Japanese design trend there. As follows the advancement of technology, there's been designers who consider "old is new" increasing in Japan. There're many interesting traditions and design materials, but during the time passages, it's become difficult to find that's interesting in present.

Mostly designers are forced to consider the cost management by market and the interesting theme and materials from ancient are out of concern. That's the problem. Personally I like tradition and would love to protect them like my temple house and my family's buddhism thought. Traditions are my good inspiration source.

The National Palace Museum is an art museum in Taipei, Taiwan. It is the national museum of the Republic of China, and has a permanent collection of over 650,000 pieces of ancient Chinese artifacts and artworks, making it one of the largest in the world. Most of the collection are high quality pieces collected by China's ancient emperors.

The National Palace Museum should not be confused with the Palace Museum, located inside the Forbidden City in Beijing, capital of the People's Republic of China. Both institutions share the same original roots, which was split in two as a result of the Chinese Civil War.

Dragons are particularly popular in China and the five-clawed dragon was a symbol of the Chinese emperors. I found the dragon shaped bottle opener in the museum shop. There's a design theme for entire souvenir design in here; it's "Old is New."

That's the theme that I feel the connection of recent design activity. The world is connecting each other on time and online right now as I write here, but it's important and interesting to find "Old" things from any places; it's my theme to travel always. Thank to the museum.

But the English instruction in the package, it can be better... I'm very sorry that I didn't understand the total meaning of design;;; Especially the explanation of the meaning of Chinese ideograms.
